In the June 22, 1998 issue of PC WEEK, it was stated that "for most companies with IBM Mainframes, the question is no longer whether to allow system access via TCP/IP, but when and how."
To paraphrase the article, the IBM MVS IP services has been "vastly improved, without adversely affecting enterprise performance and is bundled free in the operating system.  And at least 30% of its mainframe customers have already installed TCP/IP and is expected to rise to as much as 90% over the next two years" according to the article.  Further, "the MVS stack has gotten much faster over the past two years, with scalability across multiple CPUs being one of the most recent additions."   Nevertheless, SNA is expected to be around for a long time in the future.

"IP stack and services are now a standard as part of the MVS OS/390."
