Checking your IRQ and I/O Modem Settings (Windows 95/98 System)

Your PC may have many modems installed - if there's an internal conflict, you will need to know the Interrupt Request (IRQ) and Input/Output (I/O) Range that your modem is set to.  Here is how to check these settings...

Bring-up your Control Panel selections and double click on the System Icon... controlpanal.gif (22107 bytes)
Next, click once on Device Manager tab... systemsproperties.gif (8666 bytes)
Next, double click on Ports (COM & LPT) selection... devicemanager.gif (10592 bytes)
Next, select the particular COM device you want to check.  For example, we have selected as our example the Communications Port (COM1). comport.gif (12153 bytes)
Next, click once on the Resources tab... properties.gif (10291 bytes)
Now you can view the particular I/O and IRQ setting for the port you selected... resources.gif (12313 bytes)
