SCREEN STATUS MESSAGES |
This information covers the status messages displayed on your screen by the FastSync 3780 BSC program. They are displayed in the MODE window of DOS versions or on line 24 in Unix/Xenix versions. These messages show the communication line status.
Connecting To Host
This message is displayed after you entered either a send or receive command or when initiating autodial with certain external modems. This state exists until either your program or the remote computer provides a positive response to the line bid. After the positive response is received, communications begin.
Dialing Through The Modem
Your program is processing an autodial command. This status continues until there is an answer tone detected at the remote computer or until the program determines that it cannot complete the telephone connection.
Idle
Neither the remote system nor your FastSync program has anything to send each other. There is no activity on the line and no commands being processed. In this state, the program accepts any commands.
Line Bid Active
Your program is bidding for transmit status on the communications line. This state exists each time a ".SEND" or ".SENDB" command is invoked by the user.
This state continues until either the Bid Retry Count is exceeded or the remote system responds with either an ACK (Acknowledgment) or its own line bid (REMOTE CONTENDING).
Line Connect
Either the remote system responded with a positive acknowledgment ( ACK) to your program's line bid, or the program responded with a positive acknowledgment to an ENQ (line bid) sent by the remote system.
Receive Delay
our program sent the remote system a wait acknowledgment (WACK) protocol sequence because it must respond to the line, but cannot process another data block until finishing its current operation.
Receiving
Your program is receiving data from the remote system. This state continues until either (1) the remote system sends an End of Transmission (EOT), (2) a line disconnect happens, or (3) you enter the ".STOP" command at the keyboard.
Remote Bid Active
Your program is IDLE and the remote system is sending its own line bid to start a transmission.
FastSync waits for three line bids before responding with a positive acknowledgment and begins receiving data to the default receive file (DataFile.nnn). If the operator presses any key (for example the operator begins to enter a Receive command), the counter is restarted and the program waits for another three line bids.
Remote Contending
Both the remote system and your program are bidding for the line at the same time. This concurrent bidding is called "contention."
Your program continues to bid until either (1) the bid retry count is exhausted, (2) the operator enters a ".STOP" command, or (3) the remote system stops bidding for the line.
Remote Disconnect
Either the remote system dropped the line, or your FastSync program is processing an ".EXIT" command.
Remote Not Ready
The remote system did not respond to the line bid. Either the remote system is not active or some other problem prevented communications from continuing.
Sending Signon
Your program made a line connect with the remote system and is sending the signon message previously entered into the configuration file.
Signon Complete
Your program successfully signed on to the remote system. This status continues until the operator enters another command.
Signon Waiting
The remote system responded with a Wait Acknowledgment (WACK), meaning that it is not able to send a positive acknowledgment to the signon at this time. This status continues until either the remote system sends a positive acknowledgment or the operator enters ".STOP."
Transmit Delay
Your program delays transmission because it cannot format a data block in time. During this period, FastSync sends a Temporary Text Delay (TTD) protocol sequence to the remote system. You are most likely to see this state when sending files from floppy diskettes, if you see it at all.
Transmitting
FastSync is sending data to the remote system. It continues until either (1) the remote system disconnects the line, (2) the ".STOP" command is entered, or (3) the entire file is transmitted.
Waiting Completion
Your FastSync program received an End of Text (ETX) protocol sequence, meaning that the end of the file was received by your program, but an End of Transmission (EOT) was not received. This status continues until an EOT is received or until the operator enters ".STOP."
Waiting For Incoming Call
Your program is waiting for an incoming telephone call. This status continues until (1) an incoming call is detected, (2) the time to wait for an incoming call expires, or (3) you enter a ".STOP" command.
